Can someone help me set up my personal web page?
Yes. It is very important to your fundraising that you set up your personal web page. Contact us at the Ride office: info@hillcountryride.org or 512-371-RIDE.

1. I’m not a cyclist, I don’t think I can ride this far.
Most of our riders are not serious cyclists. Most have never done anything like this before. The Hill Country Ride for AIDS is a RIDE, not a race. It is an honor to come in toward the end, there are that many more people there to cheer you in!

Our free training program can lead all levels from the first time riding to being able to ride this far, and have a lot of fun in the process.

“We went through beautiful country, the number of miles between pit stops was perfect. I didn’t train much, but it was just perfect.” - Rider

2. I’ve never raised this much money. I’m not sure I can do it.
No one likes to ask for money, but when people learn you are riding miles and miles through the Hill Country, they will WANT to support you and this great cause. A majority of people start out thinking they can’t raise this much, yet even though each rider is required to raise only $500, the average rider has raised over $1,000 every year of the Ride! It’s easier than you think, and we have special fundraising volunteers who will help you raise your money. Your Hill Country Coaches, Kathy Jacobs (kathy@realtyaustin.com) and David Cobb (dirc71@gmail.com) are also good resources for fundraising ideas and help.

“I hadn’t raised this much before, but the response was high and I hit almost twice my goal!” - Rider

3. Where can I buy a bike?/What kind of bike should I ride?
Talk to a friend who is a rider, and ask them to suggest a good bike shop in your area. Here in Austin, we think the best bike shop is our sponsor, Bicycle Sport Shop. You can also send a message out to the Hill Country Ride YahooGroup and ask if anyone is selling a bike, or knows of a bike you could ride.

Some people ride road bikes (thinner frame, skinny tires), and some ride mountain bikes. We recommend you ride the type of bike you like best, are used to riding, and the type most comfortable for you. Hybrid bikes, a cross between road and mountain bikes, may also be a good option for some riders.

4. Can I train with other people who are not serious cyclists?
Yes you can.  Most of our riders are not serious cyclists.  We have leaders for different levels on our training rides. On Hill Country Ride for AIDS Training rides, you will never be left behind. Clink the link to go to more information about and a schedule of our Training Rides.

5. What kind of support will I have leading up to the Ride?
As soon as you register, you will have access to a Hill Country Coach. You can contact our Hill Country Coaches, Kathy Jacobs (kjacobs@austin.rr.com) and David Cobb (dirc71@gmail.com), who are here for you if you have questions about fundraising, training, and other Ride related issues and questions. You can also always call the office at 512-371-RIDE, or email info@hillcountryride.org.

There is also a free and extensive training ride program available to you. Click here to learn more about our training rides.

6. What ages can do the Hill Country Ride for AIDS?

2. What kind of support will I have on Ride weekend?
The Hill Country Ride for AIDS is fully supported. Along the route, we have SAG and sweep vehicles that can pick you up if you are too tired, give you water, and take you to the next pit stop where you can rest and refuel. We also have pit stops for you approximately every 15 miles on the route. Each pit stop has fruit, Gatorade, Clif bars, water, and bathrooms!

Most of all, for your support, the Hill Country Ride for AIDS has the world’s best volunteer crew! Each crew is there to help make the ride a safe and wonderful experience for everyone.

3. What are the rules/policies on Ride weekend?
